Sermon Preparation Guide

Step by Step

This exercise is designed to allow the Homiletician to make a thorough examination of the text in question. This method will grant maximum attention to the text and allow careful analyzation, proper exegesis thereby arriving at the scripture’s full intention.

First take a few moment of silence, then pray and ask God to grant the Holy Spirit full access to you and guide you in understanding the passage.  Read the passage (s) at least four to five times, not looking for anything. Do not try to develop a sermon or fit a sermon into what you are studying, simply read.

After God grant you full understanding through the Spirit, then proceed to prepare the sermon.
