LBBC Mission Statement:

To build and strengthen a foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for effective leadership and service wherever assigned by the Lord the work of the kingdom.

 

Course Description: A thorough study and preparation for the exegesis and exposition of the scriptures. Particular attention is given to principles concerning the qualifications and presuppositions of the interpreter, the nature of prose and poetic literature, and the character of the various genres found in both testaments.

 

Course Goals and Objectives:

·        To understand the principles and processes of Biblical Interpretation

·        Explain the need for hermeneutics

·        Discuss the different types of biblical hermeneutics utilized throughout history.

·        Explain the role of the interpreter in the hermeneutic process

·        Discuss the various views about the goal of interpretation.

·        Describe how to find legitimate applications of the biblical texts.

These objectives will be accomplished through lectures, reading, re-action papers, pop quizzes, midterm and final examinations.

 

Attendance is essential and two extra assignments per absence are required upon return from absence to clear missed class time.  Lack of compliance without professor’s approval lowers final grade at the professor’s discretion.


Required Text/Materials:

 

·        Bible (King James version (Preferred)

·        Bible dictionary and Collegiate Dictionary

·        Concordance

·        Hermeneutics (Principles and processes of Biblical Interpretation) by Henry A. Virkler

·        Notebook (binder) / ink pen

·        Portable tape recorder

·        Internet Access

·        April 30-May 7, Part One

·        May 14-21, 2012 Part Two

·        May 28- June 4, 2012, Part Three

·        June 11-18 Part Four

·        June 25th Final and Final Grades

 

Reading, Writing, and Oral Reports:

 

All papers are expected on time-no later than the beginning of class on the day due.

Late papers and projects will forfeit one grade point.  No credit will be given after two class periods.  This is true for any reason for absence, excused and unexcused absences.

Evaluations:  Students and Professor evaluation forms will be distributed at the last class period and given to President Garon Harden.  Names are optional on forms.
